Running Accomplishments:

I have placed in the top three of my age group in the Valley of Fire half marathon twice I believe. (doing this from memory) I placed 2nd in my age group for the Coyote challenge one year for the 5K. (once more from memory, dont remember the year, gotta look it up.) and ran varsity cross country and track and field in High School. weee! Also ran at Dixie State last season, was the fastest but it was a lovely learning experience and oppertunity!

Short-Term Running Goals:

hmmm, I want to drop my 5K times to 25 minutes and change.

I want to run the Diamond Valley Half Marathon all the way through comfortably.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Complete a half marathon in under 2 hours. Complete a marathon in under 5 hours.

Actually make it to run the St George marathon. (have planned on it but never really set my sights high and trained well to be confident enough to do it. One day...in my life-time hence long-term...I want to Boston Qualify. =) one day. ;-)

keep running strong and consistantly

Personal:

my family is pretty much the most amazingest you can ever meet. (no biases of course lol) st george is super awesome and i love it. I love running, its fun but also relaxing and it truly does help you mentally physically and any other way you need. =)

Well, this blog will be something new for me, but also fun! I did five miles today and it was HARD! I haven't ran consistantly in awhile so to go and do five miles took its toll...not to mention it was hot and had two yucky hills. BUT! I did it, and basically only because Ruth (the most amazing runner ever, she is my hero) ran with me and cheered me on, encouraged me and helped me through. She is basically the best and I could not have done it with out her. yeah, I did walk, probably about a mile towards the end, I think I was dehydrated but Ruth helped me through. So I made a goal, from this point forward I will work hard and not give up. =)  Hoorah!

Welcome to the blog. I have just a bit of advice for you. Based on your post it sounds like you went a bit too fast on this run. Initially, you want to build a base of miles that are all easy. If you cannot easily carry on a conversation (full sentences) then you are going too fast. Once you have a decent base, you can start doing some of your running faster. But how do you expect to stick with it if you never really enjoy doing it? Good luck!

Hey! You're the awesomest! Yay Lauren and getting a blog!

Welcome!! Dont push your body to hard, be consistant and you'll do great.

From Sasha Pachev on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 16:05:52

Welcome to the blog! Consistent training does wonders. If 24 minutes is what you run off a typical girl version of high school training (the boy one is bad enough, but the girl one is even worse), I would say you'd be running sub-20 in a year. In the half marathon you should be looking at around 1:30-1:35, and about 3:10-3:20 in the marathon.

But, of course, there needs to be a mindset change. You get out 6 days a week throughout the year, no exceptions and no excuses, and run the planned distance even if you feel tired/unmotivated. You eat healthy, and go to bed early, again no excuses or exceptions here. It is not the lack of drive that makes a 3:10 marathon a big deal for most people, almost everybody has a drive. It is the habit of finding excuses and exceptions. If you can get rid of that, 3:10 marathon would not a big deal for somebody of your ability.

How did your run go today?

Lauren we have most of the same goals. We should be friends.

Alright! I really appreciate all the encouragement and welcomings from everyone, thanks!

As for my run today, I took the advice I received last night and ran slow and steady so I could control my breathing. I timed myself and I averaged 11.93 minute miles.  Pretty slow, but I could breath and feel comfortable which is GREAT! So I figure if I keep that up for a couple of weeks until I am back in shape and my lungs are in shape and my endurance is well, then I can pick it up a little bit. But I think I will wait for the super intense stuff for when the season starts in August and just focus on being injury free and putting in lots of miles.

My run was great. I felt good, there was nice shade and a windy breeze but not too bad. my legs felt fine and I could breath lol. Runs like these are one of the reason that makes running worth it, where it is just so nice! hoorah for that! thanks everyone again!

For not running for a while you are doing pretty good. If you keep that energy up you will undoubtably good far in running (and fast). Welcome to the blog! Its a great place to track your progress.

Another nice run today! hurray! I averaged 11.59 minute miles for the same distance I did yesterday, only difference was time of day and todays route I took was a more direct route, with less shade. lol Im not sure if I prefer it yet. Over all my breathing was great, I felt great mostly. My left hamstring felt stiffish earlier today and was a little stiff during the run. Im not sure why its just my left hamstring and not my right but it doesnt hurt, just feels stiff. There is a pool at my apartment so I am thinking I will go swimming later for some therapy =D and its just plan ole hot outside. lol

Thanks for all your encouragement and comments again. It sure is motivating!

So today was a crummy running day. My legs felt like lead, my body ached and the heat really bothered me. and my hamstring is still tight... =( it felt better after the shorter distance. I didnt even time myself...yesterday I didnt run at all cause of the hamstring and giving blood =D

monday will be better for sure!

so I ran with the PV kids that are going to run the wasatch back...my hamstring was a killer. The plan was to run a 10K, I did 4. after I got home I went and walked a mile and a half, mostly cause it was nice outside but it helped a little with the hamstring to loosen it. sadday for injuries. yay for nice days!

So my run was pretty great today. I got new running shoes and everything. Saucony progrid guide =)  I got a new brand that I have never used but it is good cause they help with my pronating, the guy also put in an insert to help with the pronating so I am looking forward to better performance. This is the first time I have had shoes and inserts to treat pronating and everything so I am confident that my old running issues in my shins, calves and knees wil be better. =D hoorah. So I did 3.4 slow...averaged 11.86 minute miles for 3 miles and then walked .4 after finishing and stretching to help out the hamstring again.

my hamstring felt a bit better when I ran today, I have been stretching and ibeprofening to help it so hopefully it will start a slow healing. =) yay for good runs! thanks for all your comments and encouragement!

AM Run:  so my mom said that I should be doing at least 25 miles a week for now to get training for the SGM...so I did two runs. In the morning I ran 3.4 miles...very slowly, just to get some distance in and not burn out or anything for my evening run with amanda and the PV runners for the wasatch back. it was a nice run, very enjoyable.

PM Run: 5.4 miles. hoorah! probably the best feeling miles I have had in a long time. what was really exciting was that Amanda and I ran at a faster pace then what I have been running on my own for and my breathing was fine and my body felt fine...so yay! for getting in shape! its way exciting! my hammie only was tight a wee little bit at the beginning but cleared up later, it has been feeling better do yay! for injuries going away!

I decided a nice slow 4 miles would be good after running faster yesterday. and when I woke up to run my muscles were a little stiff from yesterday. not bad stiff just exercisedness stiff. =P No joke it was the most mentally challenging run I have had besides the 5 miles with ruth. the last mile I really wanted to just walk and almost a couple of times talked myself into doing it. I would catch myself and start thinking about other things but man oh man mentally I was done. the funny thing is and more proof to running being more mental then physical is that I felt great physically. My body was fine, my breathing was great, when I finished I felt great and it felt like a great run but that last mile mentally...grrrr....

but i did it....hoorah!

good luck to everyone elses runs today and this weekend!

so I wasnt even planning on running today but it happened. I have been slacking hard core, and also been having some health issues. =( but after the run this day, i am coming back full force. no matter the weather in SG.

I was hiking with friends in salt lake and we ran the trail back down, well I did, the rest stopped and walked after a little bit. It was refreshing and made me feel way healthy, those lovely endorphins kicking in haha...so yeah...I will get going with running for sure...specially sence I am planning on running the SGM.

I did almost the amount I had decided to run for today. and all I have to say is how sad it is at how quickly you can get out of shape. grrrr...I am going to be much better.

Curse the track...we are gonna run on the streets tomorrow if its the last thing i do. =)  and for sure of milage upage next week.

PM run. this run was an impulse run. I had a lot on my mind and wanted to just get out and burn off some steam and clear my thoughts. I only did two then had my roomie come pick me up cause it was way dark. I ran it at a fast past so i was breathing harder...it helped with the pent up emotions. =)  kind of a refreshing run and a therapy one for sure.

well I have been terrible. You dont need to beat me up about it, I have done that enough myself. lol. But I finally got out today and it was great. =D

3 miles..whoo. my mom biked next to me while I ran, she ran this morning. It was fun, I felt great and it was nice to have a distraction while running. Good times. I will be forever faithful. I have nice running buddies here...and I have had a mental disicpline-ness to keep me going.

I am running the lake gregory half marathon on saturday. probably stupid of me to do it because of my lack of running but it will be at my moms pace. we will be doing splits cause it is a loop around the lake and the loop is basically a 5K and they will have us finish the longer amount a bit at the beginning and a bit at the end so I am told. so the splits for the four laps are 13:30, 13, 12:30 and 12. So I should be fine. 8D

How has your training been going.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
3.000.003.00

I am trying a thing my mom told me to do with running. I call it yoda running lol. just cause its more of listening to things around you and being aware of your breathing and stuff. its cool but its having me run slow. which is fine. I stopped running for almost a month and so coming back in running slow and so my breathing is like perfect, I feel great after running. and given time my body will let me pick up the pace.

dont worry, im not running the SGM anymore so I wont be going into it with poor training/no training.

well, with the added distance my mom was timing my sister and I while we ran this and we didnt faster than yesterdays run which was shorter. so our bodies like the yoda running ;)  and are picking up. I really really really enjoy coming back from a run even though I am still out of shape and not being sore. I wonder why no one told me about this in high school I think I would have enjoyed it ALOT more. =D

I could hardly sleep last night, well last night and all the nights before, that usually happens when a) I dont run and b) if I go on my computer right before I go to sleep. SO guess what...I havent been running AND I have been going on my  computer right before bed. so tonight I am going to remedy that...I also ran 3 today. It was pretty cold this morning but was fine after I got going, I only need a long sleeve tek shirt. weee! I felt good, still feel good, still doing my moms yoda running. It really is brilliant. lol...I guess I was too worried about getting faster in HS to create a strong base, so I am going to create a strong base now.

My goal is to run the Diamond Valley Half marathon I think it is...(in January) all the way through, no walking and at a comfortable pace. I havent always been the best at training for half marathons so I figure I want to take on a new leaf ;) and create a strong base and be a better runner for me. :-)  and to feel good about. mentally and physically. hehehe.
